Sheila wasn't listening, but I couldn't help myself.
"I'm worried," I said. "Aren't you worried?"
She shrugged.
"He'll be killed."
"Shh."
"He's drunk, with car keys and a gun, this is bad."
She scowled.
"I'm serious. Someone will get killed, I know it."
Sheila sighed. "Just eat your damned popcorn. I can't hear the movie."

That's a 55-word story for Friday Flash 55. To join in the fun, write any story you like in 55-words (no more no less) then tell Mr. Knowitall by leaving a comment on his own Flash-55 post today. Or, just visit and enjoy the reads.
You can also check out a super-flash story of mine that's currently up at Seedpod's Twitter stream. (look for my Twitter username as the byline: @HeySuze)
Meanwhile, I completely forgot the flash fiction markets last week, but believe we're up to "O":
Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show publishes speculative fiction "of any length" and pays 6c/word.
Outshine is a Twitterzine for optimistic, near future prose poems, aka 'flashforwards'. $5 paid for each chosen piece.
Over My Dead Body publishes 'taut, absorbing, original' mysteries 750-4,000 words long. Pays 1c/word.

I love the ending!
Thanks Mama Zen!
Sometimes I can't think of things to say but I'm always reading, always enjoying. :)
k
lmao...man that does remind me of my father. I can't stand it when people talk through the whole movie.
Aw, Ken, thanks! I miss your blog posts and comments, but I'm glad to know you're there!
Ofira, isn't it the truth! I like talking aboug a movie, but... AFTERWARD. LOL
Well you had me fooled. And don't say a word about that sentence ya hear!!! How creative you are :) ENERGIZE!!!
Mahalo, my little pumpkin cupcake.
;-)
Excellent . . now stop talking in the theatre, very annoying!
Isn't it Baino! LOL
This is wonderful! The ending was a complete and perfect surprise.
AND, in regard to your markets, I am an Orson Scott Card fan, and would be terrified to submit anything to him. That man can write!
LOL Quilly, I said the SAME thing!! I love his books. Somehow I think writing for him would feel like offering to sing the Gilligan's Island theme to Leontyne Price.... *sigh*
You know my mother-in-law? ;)
Hubby said they use to hate to go to the movies with her because she would yell,"Look behind you! He has a gun!" :)
Nice way to start off the 55 day...even if I'm a few hours early on this side.
ROFL Hope, is there one in EVERY family? I'm beginning to think there must be! It always cracks me up when someone shouts warnings and commentary to TV-screen-figures. 'Uh, honey, Homer can't really hear you...) LOL
I hate it when you are at the movies and you get a "Chatty Cathy" sitting with you.
Just wondering why Thom didn't pick up on this, It's Thursday Missy, not Friday.
Later Gator.
Me too Bill! Thom very graciously promised to stop teasing me about my unfortunate position among the world's time zones a few weeks back, in one of the comments---perhaps to a Portrait of Words? I remember the comment more than the post!
I love the photo at the end of this great piece. The flash 55 makes me think how real are the fictions we discuss so intently. Love it.
What a MYSTERIOUS 55!!!!!!! More! More!
I'm right here ...

Very nice twist at the ending - I was glad it turned out the way it did. . . A lot of suspense built up in just a few words. . . very nice.
Sandy, thanks! That's my son in the photo; whenever we go for walks he either asks rapid-fire questions, or wanders off alone.
Thanks Mimi! I'm on my way later today--kids are wanting me(school's out, who's idea was that?)
Thanks David! It was easy to come up with because I'm such a Nervous Nellie at a movie; usually terrified by the screen. But I DON'T talk! LOL
I loved it. One of the best all day. I just love stories with a twist.
I have finished my 55.
You’ll find it
HERE.
.
But it’s a groaner.
Thanks Dr. John! I'm looking forward to it; I love groaners.
ha this is a great twist! Mother of 4 well I thought it was gonna be a teenage story with a sad ending! thanks for the laugh instead! I put up mine
HERE
I felt this one coming!!! Only 'cause this is soooooo me and Bud at the movies.
Loved it.

LOL I wasn't expecting that ending Susan - well played!
LOL! Yep, at this rate, someone will get killed all right.
Whew! I was really relieved at the end!
Mahalo, Akelamalu!
Alice Audrey, ROFLMAO!! that would have been a better end to it!!
Thanks Mona!
Oh how I wish these kinds of scenes were always relegated to being only in the movies.
Good 55.
PG
Love the twist at the end...hate it when people are yapping away in movies. That is why I go to early shows or wait for DVD! :)
Also, love the pic with your son. I just stared at it for a few moments with longing! :D
You sure did fool us dragons. You are very clever.
Thanks for your comment on our blog.
Prayer Girl, Amen! (is your family like *mine*?)
Thanks Lulda! We're much the same way, and often try to go after the crowds have already seen a film, but before the cinema pulls it---we've gotten a few private showings, but missed many films too. Win some, lose some...
Thanks Fandango, and you're welcome!
Totally terrific story! I love your O. Henry endings. They are always such a kick. I love that photo of your young man on that beautiful hill. I just read a story set in Ireland and I keep picturing everything through the photos you post.
Thanks Kay! Funny, when I'm always sighing over the photos that you and Charlene and Thom and Cloudia take in Hawaii. Such beauty, and the sunshine!
You been reading too much Ake!!
