My view's been looking a lot like this photo to the left lately. That's what I usually see as I work, when I look up: the bottom of our driveway through a rain-drenched window. But, today's weather wasn't half bad. It's grey but not raining, so we wandered outside, and the rosebush had one final surprise of the year: a Halloween blossom.
Then we took a drive to the lake, to see how the autumn weather was looking there.
When we got home, my throat was still sore so I went back to bed for a nap.
My son just woke me up to show me he could make Dracula fangs out of cheesy poofs... very good. He also asked to see the photos I'd taken. So we thought we'd share with you.
Rose City Sisters are looking for flash fiction under 1,000 words that have a Pasadena Califorinia connection, and at least three links built into the story. Well that's different. They don't pay, but I'd guess you can use those links for your own diabolical purpose. Publication is on their blog, so the reading public can comment.
Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet is a print journal of speculative fiction and stories that fall outside genres.
"We do not pay much", they say, and admit that response times are slow, but there it is.

The pictures are wonderful. Even the one with the rain. We don't have rain here like you do. I sometimes miss the steady rain of all day.
You take care of you, looking forward to your POW next Tuesday. I can only imagine what everyone has ready.
PS ~ Live Long n' Prosper Kid
Thanks Bill! We have steady rains of all *week* unfortunately. Meanwhile I have NOTHING for PoW! Not time to panic yet... but maybe time to start chewing on nails, LOL. PS: you too!
Beautiful pictures. I live the rose and the swans ate excellent. Maybe you should get a sore throat more often. It makes me nicer. ROFLMAO. yeah right. Feel better soon. Tell your soon stick one up each nostril and he can be a wart hog LOL
I love that last rose and the scenery and the swans are gorgeous!
Thom, thanks! But you're not driving while working that iPhone are you?! (gee, how could I tell....?)
Thanks Quilly! I'd never seen swans at our end of the lake before, but these two were real posers; lots of swanny portraits today.
I swear you live in a fairy tale land. Your photos are gorgeous. The rose must be a last, huge push for Nature to put out a reminder of beauty to sustain you until next spring. The swans are so elegant.
awesome pictures!! i love the view from your window!! how peaceful
The lake is beautiful. That would be a great spot to write.
Sorry, I did NOT send anyone an invite to Jhoos, but they got hold of my email and my followers list (so I was scammed), sorry again, Jeannette
Kay, I like the way you think, about that rose---everything elses has faded to dullness now, and winter here is so long and dark. I'll remember that!
CC, thanks! 'Peaceful' isn't always a term applied to Ireland, LOL so I'll count my blessings next time I look out.
Thanks Ofira! Before we bought our house we lived right beside this lake for a while -- I'd thought I'd love it but we were plagued with midges and tourists until I was glad to leave it. But it's lovely, and yes, inspiring!
Jeanette, I got nothing of that sort, so no worries! I wouldn't have blamed you anyhow---the things that can happen to us online are so frustrating, aren't they?
Oh, your photos are gorgeous, Susan! So glad you at least got out for a little while. The rose is exquisite, such fragile colors! And the swans! so elegant and beautiful! It's gray and chilly here today, but not raining for the moment -- long enough for me to make a run to the store! Hate to get rained in for the evening and no wine!!! Well, I needed a few other things as well. Hope you continue getting better -- look forward to more photos! Glad you got a kick out of my post today, I thought it was sad and funny at the same time, too!

Yesterday I needed a sweater.... today it's 20 degrees WARMER than that and I'm in short sleeves again. Wish I could bottle the sunshine we had today and send it to you.
Love the rose! Any idea what kind it is? [If all you can tell me is "floral" feel free to skip the question].
Hope you're feeling better today. Tell my wee nephew should he ever come my way, I'll take him to the only place on Earth that has one of all 8 swan varieties! [Yep, my hometown].
Hope, I wish you could too! It's a rare day in Ireland when we're not wearing a sweater (jumper, here) or jacket or at least long sleeves.
Very cool about the swans! These had big black feet, which were fascinating to the kids. Until they remembered the play park across the parking lot LOL.
Lovely photos, and for me, especially the one with the rain :) I live in the Pacific Northwest and rain is a fact of life from autumn till mid spring. Grey days and the occassional splash of sunshine that peeks through our clouds are the things that build chats over coffee ;-)
Enjoyed your site - a fun read! Hope your days are filled with what you enjoy most.
Cheers,
Steven
Thanks Steven! I have a sister who lives in Oregon so you're doubly welcome! I wish I could find the same comforts in rainy days, but no coffee shops near us I'm afraid. A cow or two maybe... lol
Beautiful photos. Feel better!
Lovely. I love seeing other people's surroundings . . white swans! Quite the rarity here, ours are black with big red beaks and feet.
Thanks Cathy! I think I'm slowly getting over this; what a pain a sore throat is.
Thanks Baino! I don't think I've ever seen a black swan, not in real life at least. The ones here float by on almost every lake and river, as if begging to be put on a postcard.
