"We do," I said, "by the caravan," and I pointed out the short yellow tank by the trailer hitch, that powers the hot water and cooker inside.
"Is it full?" he asked, and I said, sure, have we been anywhere?
Next, he wanted cigarettes.
"You shouldn't smoke near gas canisters, Son," I said, thinking that really, a nine-year-old probably shouldn't be smoking anyway.
So, no cigarettes----and then he's asking me how far it is to Chicago.
What's the boy up to?? Gas, cigarettes, Chica--??
Aaaannd, finally, I got it, I got it.
Halloween is all about pretending anyhow, right?
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!!
".. it's a hundred and six miles to Chicago,
we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes,
it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses."
"Hit it."

A-ha! I beat Dan to it. :)
Me wee nephew is a joy, even from this side of the ocean. Give both your darlings a Halloween Hug for me. :)
Thanks Hope! They make their own fun, that's certain. We're only waiting until it's a decent hour in your time zone to call the Eldest and wish her a happy Halloween, before we take the kids out for the night. I hope you have a good Halloween weekend too!
Have a wonderful Halloween. I normally pass out candy but I'm laying low this Halloween, resting up for tomorrow. I plan on relaxing and watching horror movies all day.
Very clever.
Happy Halloween!
Ghost, Goblins, Ghouls, Oh, My
Ofira, I *like* that plan! Tonight we're going to a friend's house for a bonfire party; hope there's wine LOL
Enjoy the horror!
Thanks Nessa-- You too!
How dear is that. Thanks for sharing that little piece of you life story with us today. Made me smile big !
"Sweet home, Chicago!" I'd rather have Chicago known for The Blues Brothers then Al Capone anyday!
Have a great day.
That was great! Happy Halloween!
Well of course it all made perfect sense once you'd figured it out! :)
I WAS thinking of you Peggy, and Son loves to see your blog header when I visit! I guess I know what we'll have in the CD player when we get in the car LOL
Janie, thanks! Happy Halloween!
Akelamalu, isn't that the way it always goes? If only I could live backwards in time... LOL
Susan -- they keep you thinking, don't they? I hope you and yours enjoyed the frightful festivities.
Great role playing. I love it! He had me going, wondering how you were going to intercede. Then it dawned on me... Love it! Happy Halloween, too.
Wow! You were able to figure that out? You are a smart mom. I love the photo. What a cutie! Have fun today!
You are one smart Mom, my friend! How cool!! I hope you guys are enjoying/enjoyed a terrific Halloween! Big hugs to all of you! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Susan! You are the best!
Enjoy!
Sylvia
Adorable!!!! Our tricksters will start ringing the doorbell any moment. It's starting to get dark.
Do y'all change time there? Our clocks "fall backward" tonight, meaning, we get an extra hour of sleep ... ha ha!!
Quilly, yes! One or two kids at a time is enough for me; it keeps me wondering how you teachers manage a roomful!
Happy Halloween Brenda! Maybe if he'd gotten dressed first I'd have caught on quicker LOL
Thanks Kay! The answer came really from having watched the Blues Brothers hundreds of times--and this boy is *such* a big fan. We just got home and I'm thinking it's just about time for your granddaughter to head out--I hope she has a lot of fun!
Thanks Sylvia; happy weekend to you too! The kids had a blast thanks to good friends.
Mimi, we were here at the same time! We set our clocks back last week -- I could have cried; I hate it when the evenings turn dark. I'm already counting the days 'til spring!
Ah, I see that we're introducing him to the finer things in life...you have a beautiful place, Bob!
Happy Halloween, as we fall back in time... One smart kiddo there.
Great post. Got 2 grand daughters with autism and it's become a game between myself & the wife to see who can figure out their occasional little mental meanderings during visits. Their parents are much better at it, but NONE of us can compete with your genius. I'd NEVER have conected that line of thought & the movie. Well done:)
Brilliant Susan.
Thanks Elizabeth! LOL We have BOTH kinds!!
Thanks Brighid--we fell back last week, when of course Halloween would have been a much finer night to do it, IMHO, eh?
Mike, it's an interesting pasttime isn't it? Joys and puzzles both, but in this case it was made easier because the boy says this line every time we all get in the car. The engine doesn't start until everyone replies "Hit it!" Ah, the necessary routines of an autistic family!
Thanks Neil!
oh mi gah! that is too perfect.
Ha! I LOVE it. :)
Ashley, how nice to sit back today and look at photos, with it all over?! Did your kids have fun?
Thanks Ken! I've got to get you and this boy together; he's shaping up into a real film and music man.
Its thanks to Hope that i saw this.
Its made me all happy now.
Hope you had a great day matey.
Thanks Dan! Every year Son and I try to convince Daddy to be Jake. When we finally accomplish it, I'll go as Sister Mary Stigmata, and YAY I'll have a big stick LOL
Very very clever. That boy is going to fit right in here on the shores of Hawai'i :)
Thom, that would be BLISS. If I can get a book deal out of the way, we'll try it out!
awesome!! my all time favorite movie!! i was looking for your 55 but it only went back to Saturday!! I didn't get a chance to play this week, just trying to catch up on those ho did!!
