The Death Card is nothing to fear. It only indicates change, the 'death' of a phase or an aspect of life. But she'd pulled it first in every client's reading today--all thirteen of them. No matter.
Right?
She hurried homeward, too worried to think of anything else, even people, even traffic, even crossing 13th Street.
If you like the card, that's from the The Gothic Tarot
If you like to write:
Flash Fiction Offensive wants "the kind of stories you tell when you're with your pals down at the bar, knocking back your thirteenth beer. Tales about things that went wrong when Joe Asshole punched his woman a little too hard, about the stranger Crack-whore Jenny met on the streets that she wants to forget, about the time when Loser Steve should have gotten arrested but didn't."
Dang. I need to work up to thirteen beers it seems.
Thirteen Myna Birds "is an online poetry publication seeking the evocative, the connotative, the creepy, the odd, the paranormal, and the dark... Thirteen Myna birds will consist of 13 pieces at any given time. Our favorite kind of pieces are poems, but we are also in favor of other poetic blurbs and blurts and brambles and darts and snippets such as dreamscapes and petite fictions and the hybridized innards of pomosexual beasts..."
Hey. Who you calling pomosexual??
HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH EVERYONE!!
Now be careful out there...

Perfect 55 for 13. I may need to get me that deck.
Thursday Thirteen - Me & Music
Thanks Nessa! Isn't it lovely? It's inexpensive now too, being a few years old; I think £4 or so at Amazon.
great 55!! i forgot about friday the 13!! mine is up too.
Glad I'm reading this after safely braving through the dark and rain...because our Friday the 13th is suppose to be sunny!
Well done, as always my friend.
CC, I'm glad you forgot, because yours is WONDERFUL. It seems to be a Daddy week here LOL.
Hope, glad you're home safe--and I hope the 13th is sunny! Terrible luck if it wasn't.
;-)
Ugh.... just macabre!
Awesome, Susan!!! Mine's up! Have a great weekend.
Melli, are you pronouncing that MACK-a-ber, or mac-AH-bre? Just wondering.
Thanks Mimi! I'm on my way!
happy friday the 13th. looking both ways now! nice 55...i think. i'll let you know if i survive.
mine is up!
Didn't even notice it was Friday the 13t! Great job Susan, though a little twisted :-)
I'm up:
Friday Flash 55 ~ DELETE
Death and 13. A blessing or a curse. I love the ambiguity of the ending there.
Brian, I hope you do!
Kar, thanks, and funny, I was leaving you a comment at the same time! Also twisted. LOL
Sandy, I missed you! The perils of a slow connection. It *is* rather a DIY ending but I liked it so; if she was lost she was so distracted she'd have never known so it seemed appropriate that way...
55 is such a tiny canvas on which to paint!
*applause* That was a good one! Truly! (I wanted to come up with a Friday-the-thirteenth theme, too, but I couldn't think of anything original. So I didn't.)
I'm up!
-smarmoofus
That is a nice card. I mean, so far as Death goes.
Thanks Smarmoofus! I couldn't come up with anything either, but I'd written a 140 about the Death card, and noticed I'd titled it "XIII" after its number. Then the light bulb lit up LOL.
Thanks Alice Audrey! It is a pretty deck.
You are my type of girl! You kill someone in your story and then say "Join in the fun" LOL! I have a reputation for killing people in my stories on my main blog!
I probably could have gone all day tomorrow without realizing it was a Friday the 13th if not for this 55.
BUT - I do know I loved this 55 and the ending and corresponding picture were a perfect surprise ending.
PG
Very well done, Susan. Happy 13th to you!
Love your 55! Oh, Lord, tomorrow is Friday the 13th isn't it???? I'd better hide under the bed! I don't need anything else happening!!
Have a great weekend, Susan! I'm skipping Friday the 13th!
Sylvia
Very nice. I hit the Halloween oriented 55, but didn't go down the Friday the 13th path...dang. My 55 is here.
Great 55 for the 13th. You are scary sometimes. Mine isn't up because, well because I don't have one. lol
Aaaack! I didn't see that coming. I totally forgot that tomorrow is Friday the 13th. Actually, the 13th is a good luck number for us. Isn't it weird? My husband and his sister, our son and nephew are all born on the 13th. Granted there was that time Art fell off his bicycle on Friday the 13th... but other than that...
Ah, tempting fate. Great 55.
Well now sister you've gone and done it. How the hell am I suppose to cross a street tomorrow hmmm? pffft. I didn't see this coming I must say....you have a warped sense of humor...and by all that's right...I love it cuz so do I. Get 'em when their down and on a day that 13 means something...I wonder where the 13th floor of every building is. Crap I'm just rambling..oh well...someone's got to do it, even if it's on the 12th. xoxoxoxx Oh did I say...well done :)
Well done....it's eerie, yet still, quite filled with truths for some people!!! I really like it.
My is now posted today - just scroll down a bit, below my show n tell Click Here
Great 55 . It is Friday the 13th isn't it.
I have finished my 55.
You’ll find it
HERE.
.
But it’s a groaner.
Thanks Otin! It's always nice to find similarly-twisted minds! LOL
Sorry 'bout that Prayer Girl; I see Friday 13s coming from weeks away; no bad luck yet, but...
;-)
Thanks Quilly! I hope it's a good one for you too, and that all goes well.
Sylvia, that's exactly how I feel: I'm thinking 'NOW what??' So make room under the bed for me too!
Monkey Man, there will be others you know, God willing and all that. I must admit I like writing to a theme.
Thanks Brighid! I'm taking that as a compliment. LOL
Kay, lucky you! But poor Art! Anyhow, I don't think my poor heroine saw it coming either... LOL
Thanks Anthony!
Thom, ramble on, it's ok. Avoid the streets and stay on the beach -- but take the camera so I can see. And, thanks!
Thanks Anni--must admit that 'there but for the grace of God'... it could be me anytime, I'm always so distracted.
Dr. John, I'm beginning to feel badly that so many were in blissful ignorance of Friday the 13th until I said it. I thought *everybody* would be doing a F13 story today! D'oh.
I had forgotten it was Friday 13th... Now i'm a bit scared...
Great One!
UP there is mine
HAve a nice weekend!
Well done Miss Mensa!!
The only Friday the 13th entry so far!
You ARE a smart girl!!
Loved your 55 Susie-Q...
You Rock The Blarney Stone Baby!
Have a Kick Ass Week-End...G
This is a spectacular Flash 55. Very rare to see one so professional. Well done, Madame!
Love the play on words for this lovely Friday the 13th in your
55ve. Mine is up.
This is awesome!
The clairvoyant didn't see that coming?
Great 55 Susan, especially considering the date. :)
I went to Mr Knowit and posted my first 55 word story. and came across your great blog. I am a Zimbabwean born mother of five living in the South of France and soon to head for Canada. My blog has no bells and whistles, just writing. I enjoy your blog and will be following you. Have a great weekend!
Dulce, happy Friday! We'll call this the disaster of the day so you can be safe LOL.
Galen, how I LOVE your comments (especially when you call me 'Miss', oo you took 20 years off me LOL) I nearly rotted my brain trying to come up with a 13 story because I thought everyone would be doing one... now I feel like the only one who showed up at a Halloween party wearting a costume. D'oh!
Thanks Doug! One never knows who's looking... lol Just playing it safe. And hopeful!
Thanks Mom, and Mama!!
Akelamalu, THANK YOU, I was so hoping someone would spot that and you know you're the 34th comment?! ROFL!!
Kerry, bonjour et bienvenue! We were commenting at the same time I think. I'm glad you've joined us 55-ers, and I'll be visiting you! How I'd love to be in the south of France; I once spent a lovely weekend in Bayonne, years back.
I showed up with a costume too! I just loved the ending with a question and a picture! Brilliant 55 and I knew the 13th was coming all week too :o)
Tall Kay, birds of a feather! LOL Thank you!
That was so ominous!
