Friday Flash 55, being the 6:55 and #Fridayflash

The 6:55

Just another morning, standing together on the train as always. She yawned, daydreaming of walking the beach together instead.

Doors opened.

Gunfire exploded as she threw herself into his arms. Others wrestled down a madman as she sagged against him, dying. He held her, this woman who'd saved his life.

He wondered who she was.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not a happy-ever-after kind of girl! So that's a 55-word story for Friday Flash 55, which I wouldn't miss for the world.

To join in the fun, write any story you like in 55-words (no more no less) then tell Mr. Knowitall by leaving a comment on his own Flash-55 post today, where you'll find plenty more 55-word stories to read.

If your story is just 50 words instead, you can send it to 50-to-1, a journal of 50-word stories and first lines. Earlier this week they posted a 50-word story of mine, which you can read here.

Meanwhile, I'm told that Fridays also flash on Twitter; who knew?  Look for the #fridayflash tag, or:

Flash you later!

EXCELLENT 55 My Dear!
Maybe we are all still in a bit of a morbid state of mind.
Thanks for contributing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End....G

LOL I'm going away for a weekend conference Galen and am scheduling all my weekend posts--this was first and D'OH I forgot to do the schedule thing. Then thought, what the hell.
;-)
Meanwhile, I'm off to tell my husband that you stopped by to 'mark your territory' ROFLMAO!!! Hooboy this should be good.

I guess you could call it "The Kindness of Strangers".

Such different realities inside each person's head - -and you brought them clearly, amazingly to life in just 55 words. I bow to the queen!

Susan at Stony River said...

Bill, some kindness eh!

Thanks Quilly! I always wanted to be Queen of *something* LOL

So when my eyes quit making my screen appear blurry, perhaps you can show me how to pre-plan posts better than I do now?

Cause I end up hitting "Save" and when I post, it tells on me...that I was there on Thursday trying to put it all together.

Hope the conference is one you want to attend vs. "have to". And um, stay away from trains, would ya? :)

Have a good weekend, my friend!

Susan at Stony River said...

Dulce, EEK! If I'd remembered Guy Fawkes, I would've written a 55 in which he got away with it all!!

But, being in Ireland, I really don't think of Guy Fawkes if I can help it ROFL

Awesome 55! Pretty scary though, because on Ft. Hood (Texas) today there was a huge shooting -- 12 Soldiers dead; 31 wounded.

Susan at Stony River said...

Hope, I didn't see you before--sorry! We must have commented at the same time. Don't hit 'save', hit 'Post Options' under the Compose window, and it will give you an option to schedule. It works for me (touching wood!!)

And, I'm going to the conference ON A TRAIN!! Oh no--that's probably what put this into my head LOL

Mimi, it can happen anywhere anytime, can't it? And who could see it coming? Every time I walk in through my own front door I'm just grateful, because every day, somebody somewhere doesn't.
:-(

I generally don't like fiction, but this one was really very good! Rather haunting and makes me want to read the "whole book."

Susan at Stony River said...

Mahalo, Gigi!
Hey, write the whole book...hmm...you might have started something!

Brian Miller said...

oh wow! excellent 55! got my heart pumping.

mine is up!

Tall Kay said...

Wow! You really told an entire story in only 55 words! Terrific 55! Have a fun weekend...and duck when the doors open :o)

Alice Audrey said...

Powerful, particularly the last line.

How do you flash on twitter? Is it a link thing?

Susan at Stony River said...

Thanks Brian!

Kay, I promise! LOL

Alice Audrey, exactly---you post a flash fiction (under 1K words I think) on your blog, then on Twitter post the link with the #fridayflash tag. Or, of course, you could write a story in 140 characters or fewer for one of the many twitter 'zines (there's a list on my Monday posts). I might need to start writing even *more* now LOL

Love the angst!
I have times when I'm not exactly a "happily ever after" kind of girl either.

Nice Friday 55!
Mine is all ready too.
You can read it here.

I LOVE this. Or using G-man humor: this 55 is killer. My 55 is up and HERE.

It's amazing how life works sometimes. The last line finishes it off perfectly.

I have finished my 55.
You’ll find it

Susan ~ I loved your story, sad ending and all. The daydreaming was especially poignant ~ which can also be tragic. Touching. Beautiful.

My 55 is posted: Flash 55 ~ Awakening

Susan at Stony River said...

Thanks Janna! I'm on my way.

Monkey Man, oh grooooooan, that is so perfect LOL. See you later!

Thanks Anthony! I know too many women who live in fantasy worlds with men who are clueless to it. Come to think of it, I might be one.

Thanks Anni! I'll be over.

Thanks Dr. John--on my way!

Thanks Kar! After yours I almost felt guilty about not giving mine a happy ending, you know--or at least a single moment. LOL

Now that's a sad one, but I like it. She's walking the beach now, no doubt.

MIke Kilgore said...

MOre and more of these on the news...Stony River sounds a rather peaceful place!

Susan at Stony River said...

Mama Zen, lol, neither did he. (Men.)

ROFL Smarmoofus!!

Susanna, that's my favourite comment right there. God forgive me but I never gave the poor girl another thought about 'what next'.
:-O

Thanks Mike! It is indeed (being fictional lol)

Felicitas said...

Awesome 55! You made me feel connected to that poor girl in so few words.

SandyCarlson said...

I like that. Those sudden events that rip the rug out from under life. So real.

Kay said...

Whoa, this extremely well written, haunting story was rather timely in light of the terrible Fort Hood situation in Texas.

mazzz_in_Leeds said...

Punchy 55 tale, I liked it!

Susan at Stony River said...

Thanks Felicitas! I'm glad to see you here!

Sandy, it's too real, isnt' it? Sometimes when the whole family piles into the car I can't help thinking of other families wiped out in theirs. I'm grateful for every day I get.

Thanks Larry, and good luck! I'm enjoying flash fiction now that I finally tried it LOL

Kay, do you know I wrote this last week, and didn't hear of the Ft. Hood incident until someone else mentioned it and I looked it up online. You just never ever know. Sadly it's not rare enough, not to be unbelievable!

Thanks Mazzz!
:-)

Mona said...

Having a very excellent weekend thanks, as are the Hawaii Warriors --- Ho'omaika'i!!!
