That there is my favourite poem ever!! Duffy's collection called the World's Wife, written from the perspectives of wives of famous figures, is hilarious in places. Try this too, from Mrs. Midas:

"...I made him sit
on the other side of the room and keep his hands to himself.
I locked the cat in the cellar. I moved the phone.
The toilet I didn’t mind. I couldn’t believe my ears:
how he’d had a wish. Look, we all have wishes; granted.

I'm with Quilly--modern poetry often seems to be trying to be clever and different and confusing. I really like Ted Kooser and Billy Collins' work; they use language like a paintbrush.

I write poetry and have won a few awards for some of my work, but mine is not clever, just as close to the truth as I can get it. Which can cut to the bone sometimes, but more often what I write is joyful and peaceful.

I like the Poetry that doesn't have to rhyme and just likes to tell a Short Story, Something like Annie and Willie's Prayer.

I don't think I'd even like to take a stab at Poetry, I am having enough problems keeping the Life of Blanche going. Like I posted in a comment I almost "Killed" Blanche off with this episode.

I am beginning to "Lose My Puff" to quote Ian Fleming as he was Quoted when asked about his later James Bond.

Quilly, I can't write poetry at all; I've tried but have never liked the result.

I love my friend Hayley's poetry and now Rachel's book is a real keeper, but years ago I wouldn't even read poetry because of overexposure to 'poets' who were either no-talent-all-attitude, or depressed teenagers writing binders of it at a time and insisting on reading it out loud to anyone who wasn't running away. Unfortunately, there was always at least one of either in every writing group I was in.

Almost forgot, I like Brian Miller's too, who joins in the Friday Flash 55s.

I enjoy writing poetry more often than I enjoy reading it. It seems to me that modern poetry is deliberately obscure and plays to an elitist audience.
